My battery is dead and I have to keep the cord in one position for the laptop to turn on, some times it loses power without the cord moveing. Lately I can't even get the cord in the position for the laptop to turn on, so I think whatevers causing the problem is totally broken. The power cord seems to be working, there is no visible, external damage. Since I don't have another computer to test the power cord on, I'm not sure if it's the cord or the computer. Is there any way of fixing the problem without taking the laptop to be fixed or buying a new power cord? If so, please tell me.

I'm a PC user considering the prospect of switching to a Mac. (A MacBook, to be specific.) I'll be recording podcasts, storing digital media (i.e., iTunes), using the Internet on-the-go, and performing other basic computing functions that I've gotten used to with my PC. What kinds of things do I need to be prepared for, and what all will I need to buy to meet this criteria and make the switch from Windows to Macintosh as seamless as possible?

i have an IBM Lenovo T60 thinkpad. Anyway, as this is a common question i dont think it matters.
Its said that the battery life will drop significantly if i always connect the power supply while im working.
So should i just work on the battery alone (i.e. not connecting ac power) OR just connect the ac power and remove the battery ?

So tell me how connecting the power line always will affect my battery

My comp was running and I left it for not even thirty minutes. When I came back, my screen was solid gray. I thought it had just hibernated, but I can't get it to come back up. I tried closing it, nothing happened. I tried using the power button to turn it off, nothing happened. Now it is unplugged, and I'm waiting on the battery to die. I'm hoping that I will be able to restart it when it does. Any thoughts on what could be wrong, or possible solutions?

My Husband bought his computer maybe 10 mos ago. All of a sudden he went to use Excel & it wouldn't open.
He went to Best Buy & was told he was given a Windows Trial. So now he has to pay $400.00 for something that should have been given to him. Is there anyway around it?

I have a Dell P4 laptop that has a wierd problem. After a few uses over a few days, it just won't boot. It stays that way for several days and then boots up when I try again. The green battery light shows up as normal and the battery will be fully charged. What causes this?

Even when my laptop is fully charged, it doesn't worked unless it's plugged in. As soon as I pull the cord out, it just immediately shuts off. Is there a way to use my laptop without the cord at all times? It's an older Compaq that runs Windows XP if that helps.

It seems kind of pointless to have a laptop that doesn't have mobility. Thanks for your help!

I wnat to get a laptop, but I'm on a budget. I can't afford a Gateway, and I hate Macs. Do the laptops you buy for a grand at Wal-Mart perform as well? I've used them a couple of times and have been pretty impressed, but I haven't used them long enough to really make a judgemtent. My main concerns are gaming, surfing the web, music and video, and burning cd's. I don't care about burning DVD's, but I would like to watch them. I will be going to college in about three years, and until then I can use the computers at my high scyhool. Then i'm going to need one that I can use for school, but I can probably buy a new one for that. Any help?

Is it possible? I can't find the disk so I can't just stick it in there and use it. Would downloading a torrent of Windows xp work? I already have windows xp installed onto the computer so would it be just like restoring it? Thanks

Can somebody please give me some detailed advice
on what to do? Not just "get a new laptop", or "stop downloading stuff." Thanks.

My laptop came with 30GB on it, and now, because I have ITunes, The Sims2, Sims2 Nightlife, Sims2 Pets, Zoo Tycoon, Mall Tycoon, and PhotoShop, I only have 13 GB left, and I know it's not good to have a low amount of GB left, since I still download songs, and am constantaly uploading photo files for my Photoshop program.

What should I do to regain, or get more GB? Is there anything I can do? Advice? Thanks again.

First my computer messed up. It wouldnt load up windows, it would just continually restart. I tried recovery it from an earlier time period using Norton GoBACK. Then I tried safe mode and did a recovery from there also. Nothing worked. So I decided to reformat it and reeinstall windows XP, which I have succesfully done before. Now it loads just the bare minimum. It doesnt load sound drivers, internet capabilities, I cant install anything, and my cd-rom drive wont read jack. I have tried multiple times, and each time I get the same thing. My laptop is just a paperweight.
