I'm buying a new laptop and im not sure wut processor or brand is good in which i get a good deal so can you help me out here?

I'm going to be using this laptop to do school work such as word docs and power points etc. I will be using this laptop to listen to music with and possibly watch movies. Im going to be burning cd's for music so i would like a burner also. I will be mainly using this to do hw (as i said above), Instant messenger (AIM) and just to surf the web email, play games, go on nba.com etc.....

here are some Requirements i thought of:

Processor - (for word docs, music, and surfing web) Core 2 Duo? (not sure if the core 2 duo is wut i need; some ppl have told me this one is good?)

Hardrive - 80GB or more

Memory - 1Gb

(OS)Windows: Vista Home Premium

Bluetooth technology for wireless internet

Burner - normal (maybe 8x) i only need it to burn music cd's

Thanks

I was loading up pictures of a trip from the memory stick in the camera into my computer, I think by mistake I erased 4 I really liked. Is there a way I can retrieve them?

I've looked in my files, and found everything else but, I was looking for them by DCS0.....number sequence.

Now, I understand that I will have to reinstall windows and such. Also, I have the recovery disks and know how to reinstall

However

1) After plugging in the new hard drive, do i turn it on, and put the recovery disks in?

2) In my last question, someone said that I would need to format it and set a number of partitions.

for #2, I do not clearly understand what the means. please help. i need my laptop up and running soon =[

I have a 2 year old Toshiba Satellite P30-110. When it was around a year old it started exhibiting the shutdown problems that seem to be common & well documented. I controlled this by raising the laptop for additional cooling. I then discovered that if I reduced the processor power it would not get so hot. I did this about 6 months ago and the machine has not shut down since.

I decided to rebuild the machine. The ghost image gets about 25% in and the machine shuts down. I presume that, because I don't have XP reducing the processor speed, the dratted thing is now running at full pelt and overheating straight away.

I wanted to check if there was something in the BIOS to reduce the processor speed but there is a BIOS password! I don't remeber setting one and have no idea what it is. Backdoor passwords do not work.

Is there somewhere in the BIOS that will allow me to slow the
processor? Any other ideas for installing some sort of OS to allow me to contol this & resintall XP?

Hi, I've been having trouble choosing between the Dell Inspiron E1505 and the HP dv6000t. They seem like very capable systems. Both are coming with Windows Vista Home Premium, same size screen, and apps. The specs of each are as follows:

The Dell: Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB), 15.4 in. screen, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ 2 DIMM, 120GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 TurboCache, 9-cell lithium, and Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N for about $1,684.

The HP: Same processor, same screen, basically same memory, same hardrive, but has a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400, Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG,and a 12-cell lithium for about $1672.

I was also wondering what the difference is between Shared Dual channel memory and normal RAM because for the Dell, there is a choice between 2GB of Shared dual channel at 533MHz or normal 2GB at 667MHz. Also, is hardrive speed significant because a choice of 100GB at 7200rpm is offered.

ANY help is appreciated

This laptop is a Dell Inspiron 3800 with no CD rom drive, only a floppy drive. I have tried making Dos boot disks to try to get USB support in Dos so that I can start installing windows XP from my flash drive plugged into it. So far nothing I have tried has gotten it recognized. Then again most of the things I have tried are based around USB CDrom drives.
