My Husband bought his computer maybe 10 mos ago. All of a sudden he went to use Excel & it wouldn't open.
He went to Best Buy & was told he was given a Windows Trial. So now he has to pay $400.00 for something that should have been given to him. Is there anyway around it?

Ditto OpenOffice - remember, it'll get you all the stuff in Office except for Outlook, and that, you can use either your online email (Yahoo!) or if you want to download email use your Outlook Express (it came with Windows) or download free Thunderbird (and get Firefox while you're at it!)

...but back to the topic...OpenOffice is a LONG download! You may want to look at their website and fetch a CD. Amazon has one at a reasonable price.

What you have is a Microsoft Office Trial, not Windows. Very few computers actually come with Office, most will have you buy it when you order them. Unfortunately to get Office working again you will need to buy it, you might look into the Educational version as it is MUCH cheaper, though you may be violating some license agreements if you use it for business. Good Luck!

Computers come with a free 60 day trial of Office. After those 60 days, office shuts down, and yes, its expensive to buy.

You can go to www.openoffice.org and download an open source version that is missing some advanced features for free.

Otherwise, you will have to buy an expensive version of MS Office.

That is the standard with HP. They only include the trial version of Office (unless you pay the extra for the full version).

It is legal - not very fair - but legal.

Dowload the free OpenOffice and it will run your Excel files for you.

Hi. Yes. Download 'OpenOffice', a free alternative to Windows Office. (Free trial? Just want you dependent on their software.)

No.

However, you can download StarOffice for free from www.sun.com and it will open/save Excel spreadsheets.
