My comp was running and I left it for not even thirty minutes. When I came back, my screen was solid gray. I thought it had just hibernated, but I can't get it to come back up. I tried closing it, nothing happened. I tried using the power button to turn it off, nothing happened. Now it is unplugged, and I'm waiting on the battery to die. I'm hoping that I will be able to restart it when it does. Any thoughts on what could be wrong, or possible solutions?

This is my suggestion (I've done this before to my computer) but take this suggestion at your own risk:

Pull the battery out of your laptop and the computer will shut off (no power). Wait a minute, put the battery back in, plug the computer back in, and start it up.

This method works for me when my laptop freezes...but it is risky. As an alternative, you can wait til your battery runs out (but it's essentially the same thing) or you can take your computer to a CompUSA or other location for repairs.

Good luck!

First, why not just remove the battery? If you are not hearing fan noise or seeing no visual evidence (lights, etc) the first thing to suspect would be the power source. The second would be the motherboard. That is about it without more info which you should have after attempt to boot up.

Why don't you just remove the battery for a minute? Then you don't need to wait until the battery is empty.

PS: Make sure you remove the battery AND disconnect from the power outlet.

Hi. Turn on the machine and keep tapping th F8 key while it boots. This should open a window. Select 'Last known good configuration' if offered or 'Safe mode' if not. Run your AV and AS software. Good luck!
