The battery was a little low when this happened. The fan went on also which seldoms goes on unless I have been using it for a while which is the case now. The desktop stays on even when I close the cover. Help!

Hit the "On" button for about 10 seconds, it should help it shut down. If not - just disconnect it from the power source. It will eventually shut down.

Unplug it and pull out the battery for a minute or two. It should shut down. Also, the "emergency off" feature could be tried: hold the on/off button down for at least six seconds. If it doesn't shut off after that, take it to a repair shop, or just take out the battery.

Unplug the power cord. Turn it over and remove the battery. Re-install the battery. It's probably not the recommended method, but it works for me.

Quit buying Macs overpriced junk, and get a real computer. This wouldn't happen using Windows.
