Can somebody please give me some detailed advice
on what to do? Not just "get a new laptop", or "stop downloading stuff." Thanks.

My laptop came with 30GB on it, and now, because I have ITunes, The Sims2, Sims2 Nightlife, Sims2 Pets, Zoo Tycoon, Mall Tycoon, and PhotoShop, I only have 13 GB left, and I know it's not good to have a low amount of GB left, since I still download songs, and am constantaly uploading photo files for my Photoshop program.

What should I do to regain, or get more GB? Is there anything I can do? Advice? Thanks again.

Just go buy a couple of USB memory sticks. Then put all your games on one, your pics. on another,,etc. They run about 20-30 bucks a piece. A lot cheaper than having more memory installed. Good Luck.

Besides trying to buy a thumb drive, you could try for an external hard drive, which come in sizes of up to 500 GB these days. Naturally, you would only need around 5 GB, or maybe 10 GB. You could then store most of your music/files on it. Also, try burning some files onto DVDs or CDs. In addition, your computer should still be working for a fair amount of time before performance degradation, but in the meantime, defragment the laptop every so often. If you aren't sure how to, google "defragmentation" and select a Microsoft link, if available.

There is only one way to free up hard drive space. You have to remove some of the files you have installed on your computer. This can mean moving some of the data, such as music you rarely listed to, Videos, pictures, etc. off the hard drive and on to CDs or DVDs instead. Or you will have to install some of the programs that you do not really need or rarely use.

With a 30Gb hard, 13Gb still free is not yet in the "danger" zone. A hard drive has to be below 10% free (in the case of a 30GB drive, below 3GB free) before it will begin to affect performance.

But other then remove files from your hard drive, there is no other way to free up space.

Another alternative is to invest in an external USB hard drive. You can move data or reinstall rarely used programs to run from it. That will free up space on the internal hard drive.

Why don't you invest a few dollars on a 1 gig thumb drive (or bigger if you can do it) and just copy your music and pictures to it.

Unfortunately, 30 gb drive used to be huge - but with today's operating systems and elaborate software, it's not much anymore. You can try buying an external hard drive. I have a USB 30 gig hard drive - and I keep a ton of stuff on it.

clean it up. I'm sure there's a lot of crap on there that you can get rid of. Start with your cache and temp files. Also if you turn off your backup function in XP. That eats up tons of space. You may want to burn some things to disk too. 13GB is still a nice little chunk of space. You can get 300GB external drives for around $150 at amazon.

Well if you have a mp3 device such as an ipod or something put all your songs on there and once you put them on there then delete them off your computer so your mp3's dont clog up your computer! You can always run a disc cleanup to get rid of files you do not need.

A few options ...One is to delete items you no longer really need.......Also there is the option to compress your hard drive.(problem with this is it will really slow down your computer) . You will find this option in windows maintaince...... You also might consider downloading Winzip or Winrar...at www.cnet.com...and compress files you don't use alot. One other good option is a USB hard drive. You can get a 100 gig for about $99.00

Yah.... don worry about it still... People have concept that low hard disk space will due to slow performance and system crash. Nope. As long as the system has enough space to breath (about 1GB free space for the OS) then the rest you can use up. Hope this helps.
