think it has to do with the driver software or just the hardware

If you're mechanically inclined, disassemble it and look for damage or contamination in those key switches. If you're not, suck it up and have a professional do it.

A good cleaning will often times help. Aside from that, the keyboard is generally not worth fixing. Labor costs being what they are it is almost always cheaper to replace than to repair a keyboard. I am a tech myself and even cleaning is not cost effective for me on my own equipment. I can make $30 to $40 an hour or spend an hour or more working on a $15 to $20 keyboard. It's just not good business...
