I have a LaCie external storage drive. When I save a file to that drive, it gives it an incorrect "Date Modified". If I save it to my laptop hard drive, the file gets the correct "Date Modified".

Anyone know what the solution is?

This is a very unusual situation I have. I have a Dell inspiron 4000 laptop and it just happens that i wanted to re-format my windows XP. but i realized that my cd drive isn't working anymore so i decided to hook my external CD burner to my pc. When the laptop is on, the cd is well recognized from that source. But my problem now is that i can't find a way to boot the cd from the external cd drive. How do i do it? Or does anyone have a better solution for me to format my laptop given that the internal cd drive isn't working?
and no, im not going to buy a new one right now.

i get a blue screen and a message saying that another application is using camera, but no other applications are open. has this ever happened to you? i have to tried restarting several times, it only works once but i get the same message if i try to open it again.

I just bought a laptop to start a new job. The company does not want us using laptops. They said sometimes there is problems wiht the dvd software working with the laptops, that there are drivers missing or problems. This doesnt make sense to me. Is it true some dvd software will not work on a laptop. I had to meet teh specs for processor speed, ram etc. I am not sure if they are just saying this to discourage laptop use as they have headaches trying to support it. I will be using it to work from home and i have 2 desktops and dont want 3. At least with a laptop I can use it other than work for portability. Have any of you heard about private company software that does not work with laptops. I thought a dvd drive is the same kind of drive as a desktop. I also just posted my first question regarding if i should use the acer i bought or exchange today for a toshiba. Last day I have to decide.

My little cousin was next to me when I was using it & then he started pressing the buttons. The display of the whole thing turned into a little square in the middle. It`s really annoying "/. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

Hey I'm about to upgrade my dell inspiron 9100 and I was wondering could I install a 120gb or 160gb pata drive in my notebook? Dell's documentation states it can handle 100gb drive no problem, but for a couple of more dollars, I can get a bigger drive. Tell me what you think?

questions regarding laptop:

1. What is the best way to clean ur laptop?? Like is it okay for me to use alcohol to clean it or would that ruin it???

2. I want to change the look of my laptop (i don't like the plain black color one- it's soo boring), i can't afford to buy me a skin laptop right now. So any idea to change the look of my laptop? Is it okay for me to put up stickers or something on the laptop??? I'm afraid the adhesive of it will the laptop. HELP ME

I have an Acer Aspire Notebook. The dvd-rw drive for some reason suddenly is not autorunning the cd's and dvd's.
I tried 1) Re-installing drivers. 2) In device manager.. changed to defaults for the optical drives ..3) in start>run>services.msc -the autorun is enabled which is disabled if necessary. 4) Registry - HKEY_CURRENT_USERS>Software>microsoft>windows>current verson>explorer. There is no "noautorun" key present. 5) Anitvirus up to date.. no virus..

okay so my laptop is really hot. hotter than usual.

And for the last couple of days, the internal fan has been making a bit of a wierd noise..

Now thinking about it... i haven't heard, or felt the fan for a while ...

And my laptop isn't cooling down
I can't get off of it, because i'm in the middle of something.

How can i cool it down?
And do you think the motor for the fan may have burnt out or worn out or something..?

If yes.. do you think it would be easier/cheaper just to buy a new laptop rather than have it fixed.. it's about 2 years old..

i will have to chose which laptop(windows) to buy, one is a 3.4 pentium 4 ht with 2 gig ram and 128 mb radeon or a mac pentium 2.0 ghz intel 2 duo with 1 gig ram. both are the same price.
