okay so my laptop is really hot. hotter than usual.

And for the last couple of days, the internal fan has been making a bit of a wierd noise..

Now thinking about it... i haven't heard, or felt the fan for a while ...

And my laptop isn't cooling down
I can't get off of it, because i'm in the middle of something.

How can i cool it down?
And do you think the motor for the fan may have burnt out or worn out or something..?

If yes.. do you think it would be easier/cheaper just to buy a new laptop rather than have it fixed.. it's about 2 years old..

Thanks

Sounds like your fan is burnt out. Stop using your laptop or you will overheat the motherboard. It should be that much to fix...get an estimate ASAP!

Most good techs can fix a fan for under $200 (100 pounds). However, if you can't be without your laptop for the week or so to get it repaired, then you might just want to get a replacement.

Understand that a laptop is really only designed to last 3 years, so if your notebook is pushing the big 3, then it is destined to be replaced.

Yes you need to save your project and get off your machine... if you continue use it with no cooling system the CPU will overheat and will probably lock up computer up... which means you'd lose your work and have to stop using it anyway. After you get your internal fan replaced I recommend you go by TigerDirect.com and invest in a $15 external laptop cooling pad... See the link below. I use this exact cooling pad on my own system and I have notice a huge increase in my laptop's performance.

Turn off that laptop asap. If for some reason you cannot, then somehow ventilate it, maybe put it in your freezer (crazy) to run it.

A broken fan costs anywhere from 10 to 50 USD to fix, a laptop costs a few hundred.

Ok ive seen this thing at wal~mart that like mounts under you laptop and fans it...look at stores like best buy or you can use a small fan under it...i had something like that rigged once...also if you AC is running then put the laptop over an airvent ( in the summer when the Ac is cold lol)

Start saving your work. If your laptop is overheated, it will restart itself.
Have it repaired. Laptop fan does not cost a lot of money. Perhaps would consider using external fan just in case.

I had this happen also. It would shut down after only @ 20 min.
I did end up getting a new one soon after.
You never know, take it to a geek and find out for sure.
Be sure to back up ur junk soyou don't lose it!
Good luck!

fan is bad or broken. don't use the laptop until you hget it fixed or youmay burnm up the whole thing.
a new fan would be cheaper, but you'd have to find out whether it would be worth fixing first. call several computer repair places for prices. they should be fairly similar.
