Not after 3 months you should not have to return their money. they may have picked up the virus themselves. If it worked fine when you sold it don't worry about it. When you say it was wiped clean and then reinstalled, I hope you mean you did the whole format and then new install. I am not an expert, but I have heard of viruses that can survive the format, that are so deeply embedded that they come back even fter the format.

Well, it's clearly not your fault. Tell her to download a good antivirus software, wipe out her system and reinstall it all. Or, offer to do it for her at a certain charge. But you can't just put yourself out of money because she downloaded some viruses on her own. It wasn't your fault.
Think about what would happen if she bought a computer at an actual store, and then came back in citing this issue. What would they say to her? They'd probably laugh.
Nah, I wouldn't do it. It's ridiculous.

I'd tell them to get lost UNLESS you sold it as having working antivirus.
If you didn't tell them you were giving them an antivirus (OR if they didn't keep it up to date) then it's THEIR responsibility that the laptop has virusues. It's 3 months ago... even commercial oganisations only give that long a warranty on the hardware. It can take way under 30 seconds online unprotected to introduce a virus onto a PC so they can't reasonably expect you to reimburse them.
But, you take that line they may decide they don't like you anymore.
Anyway, why can't they just de-virus it and carry on using it? They sound like exploiters and not someone you want to be friends with!

no F**k'n way! if the HDD was completely reformated before you sold it and you did'nt use it online after that then theres no way that could be your fault. i bet some dumbass downloaded limewire and now the computer is wrecked from viruses and they're looking for someone else to blame it on. just tell them its not ur problem and to get some anti-virus software.

no b/c it was sold as is and it is simple to just run a virus scan and remove the virus. The software should not have been included so they should go buy that.

No because if you wipe the hard drive there should be NO virus on the computer
so your friend's wife says there is a virus on it
it's because she accidentally download it

No, it's their problem. If it was clean when you sold it, it's up to them to fix it. The viruses aren't your doing.
