My fiancé and I are going to buy a laptop for her 9 year old daughter and we want to get her one that she can play her games on, do her school work on and grow with for a few years. Yea I know she's only 9 but we are not talking about your average little girl. I am not concerned with her not taking care of a $1000 piece of equipment because of the values she has and the maturity level that this person embodies. (Yea, she's still nine, but...) We are looking at two laptops, one has the AMD and the other has the Intel Core and there is a noticeable price difference. So what's up with that? Help Please... :)

This morning I was wiping off the screen and keyboard with a cloth. I must have pushed several keys at the same time. Now when I press "S" in any application, the "/" symbol comes up. If I press "H" the letters "h6jm come up. Pressing V makes VB.

What did I do? and How do I go back to a normal keyboard?

I recently purchased a brand-new HP Compaq nc6220 laptop. There is a problem with the LCD screen, which I am trying to resolve. The colors on the screen are very washed out and seem to have too strong of a blue tint to them. They look only slightly better if the LCD is tilted way back, and if you are looking at it from an angle. I have checked the color settings in the display configuration, and they are set to the factory defaults. I was even able to compare it side-by-side with another laptop of the exact same model. Adjusting the color settings in the graphics card driver doesn't do the trick. Neither does Adobe Gamma. I tried plugging an external monitor into the VGA port, and it looks fine, so I doubt it's an issue with the video card/drivers. HP support won't fix the problem, and I am at a loss of what to do. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I seriously need a new laptop. How bad? I am working in safemode. The plan was to get it fixed (this weekend actually), but this morning my ac cord broke. A universal is $120, a replacement for my computer (inspiron 1100) is about $45. With those together I figure it is time to invest in another computer. I have bad credit, anyone have any suggestions on where to apply? Best Buy turned me down so did Radio Shack. I want to apply only today bc I am cleaning up my credit so everything has been showing good.

It's new I've had it for about 8 months.

The problem is well you know how when you put it a disc it says something like what action do you want to take or when you plug in your digital camera or memory card a screen comes up and asks if you want to download to a folder or whatever. anyways well last week i put in my memory card and nothing happened. then i put in a dvd to watch and it didn't start up it started to read the disc and stopped.

So my question is.

Is my computer broken or did that action get turned off or what? Help!
I do have warranty so should I just take it back to best buy and have them check it out or is it something I can fix?

help please!!!!

I bought my laptop a month ago and as soon as I first opened it, I noticed a single dead pixel. Basically it looks like a star in the center of the screen.

The store would have gladly given me a new laptop (no questions asked) but it was outside of their 14-day return policy. They sent it back to the manufacturer (Toshiba) who sent it back two weeks later saying there was nothing wrong with it.

I read the manufacturer's warranty and apparently it only covers defects in excess of five pixels. That basically means that you could have up to five dead pixels (which would make your laptop a worthless piece of camel manure) and the manufacturer won't budge.

The other frustrating part about this is that I bought the one-year store warranty which is supposed to cover even damage caused even through my own fault (e.g. beverage spills).

I just want to make sure that there's nothing else I can do and Toshiba isn't screwing me ("sodomizing me" may be a more accurate term...)
