Whenever my laptop starts it says that the operating system cannot be found. I just formated the hard drive and reinstalled windows the other day. It worked fine for a couple of days then started saying that it cant find the OS. I checked the BIOS settings and everything was fine. I checked the connection and it was fine. Can I hook up the HD to my PC to recover data, or what do I do to recover data? Thanks

I just formated a hard drive and reinstalled XP on a laptop of mine. It worked fine for a couple of days, but yesterday I turned on my laptop and it read Operating system not found. I tried again a few minutes later and windows loaded. Then later on in the evening it began the same problem and is continuing to do so today. I just asked yahoo and it said to check the Bios settings, I did and it said there was no hard drive on the computer. Does this mean I've lost what I have on the hard drive? Is there anything I can do?

hi all......this is kinda a long story.....lol......anyways i somehow lost my operating system and need to repair it so i put in the recovery disk and it goes thru the process to repair and then it ask me for my admin password which i never set one up so im lost on how i can type one without one..........lol also i went into the system and changed some stuff to let me get as far as i have with the repair and now i can get windows to show up but when it tries to open i get a box that now saids isass.exe-system error and then it saids when trying to update a password this return status indicates that the valule provided as the current password is not correct what ever that suppose to mean cause once again i have no passwords set up......and if you click on anything the ok or x box it reboots itslef but if you dont do anything it will reboot itself too and will keep rebooting over an over like ever few seconds any help on either issue would help either with the error or the admin password

I just bought a Dell SmartStep 250N off of eBay. It has an Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.4 GHz, 40 GB harddrive (4200 RPM), 32MB ATI Mobility Radeon video card, and 256MB of RAM (I think). Is this a good laptop? Will I be happy with it? I will use it for surfing the internet mainly.

Mine is on it's last leg. It's about 2 years old and has taken a few hits in its time. I take it everywhere. I need a new one. Doesn't necessarily need to be top of the line. All I use it for is writing and internet. 256-512 MB ram/ 1 GHZ and up would do just fine. I would prefer new or refurbished and of course some kind of warranty would make me feel better about buying. I got screwed once on ebay (never delivered). Any ideas? I'm looking for under $500 if possible.
