Every laptop seems to be different in this regard. My HP Pavillion laptop has a 'lock' key next to the F-12 key.

Also, the Function key is usually used in conjunction with other keys, like the number pad- so if you're typing along and all your "K's" are 2s, it means that your number pad is locked. Look for a symbol that looks like a ten-key pad (again, it is in different places in different models), and press it at the same time you press the FN key. That should solve the problem. The laptop might also have lights that indicate if you have a function locked. Mine has a light that indicates caps, numlock, and ten-key. See if yours has such an indicator.
