I'm looking for a good laptop; something that can 'do it all' so i guess i'm talking about a media lappy.

I'm online loads (too much) so need it to handle all the net stuff; also use it alot for media files like MP3 and DVD.

I have a series of external HDD (4 x 250GB) so memory isnt really an issue, but would like to have some serious RAM and a processor that can handle a lot.

I saw a nice one (nice one - that's a technical term - lol) on the PC World TV advert last night; £999 reduced to £799 and it had some kind of Duel operating processor thingy.

Is there a good place to find this kind of thing, but perhaps cheaper?

Can a HP nc6220 laptop handle the following widescreen resolutions:
1680 x 1050
1440 x 900

These 2 resolutions are currently not listed in the display settings, but will the laptop automatically recognise these settings once a monitor (with this available resolutions) has been plugged in?

When starting up the screen is normal, then all of a sudden it changes at the bottom of the screen into a frosted appearance with vertical lines similar to a bar code. You cant see the task bar but when the cursor is behind it the lines move in line with the cursor. ?

I dropped my laptop. When I turn it on it says "Hard drive not found" and won't load any further. I want to take it into a computer repair place (I don't care about the cost because there are digital pictures that are very sentimental to me on my HD that I never had the time to back-up-- I'll never make that mistake again!) but I don't know if I should even get my hopes up that it could possibly be repaired as it sounds like something is broken inside the drive by the clicking noise it is making. Can a computer repair place fix a hard drive that is actually broken inside?

If I want a good home laptop to use for Quicken, Office, etc. as well as some photo and DVD editing, should I go with a cheaper Turion 64 chipset versus the more expensive Intel dual core options? The Turion is about $150 cheaper and is 64 bit ready (for what that's worth) - but the multi-threading may be better performance even if I'm not doing heavy multi-tasking. Thoughts?

In Task Manager on laptop, System is running close to 100%. System Idle is virtually not used. Been in registry and everything ok. Scanned for viruses, worms, etc, nada. Did replace hard drive recently. Computer still works, but running extremely inefficiently. Any thoughts?

3 months back i purchased a hp pavilion dv1000 notebook.. due to some technical problems i sent my notebook to hp store.. i agree it was accidental mistake, and i was prepared to pay the service charge.. when i sent my notebook they didnt specify how to pay the service charge and later i paid the service charge, it was $698.. i clearly specified that speakers and keyboard arent working.. but when my notebook was repaired and was sent back to me, i noticed that the speakers and keyboard arent repaired.. in the customer receipt they specified that the keyboard has been replaced.. now when i asked the customer service , he said me to send my notebook back.. my work has been severely hampered and the basic problems werent soleved but the bill is $698.. can i file a case on hp?

I have run virus and malware programs and i am clean. I think my problem lies in the registery, is it better for me to try and fix it or is it better to just reformatt the hard drive?

Right out of college I bought a brand new car. I had my thrill but I'll never do it again because cars depreciate so much in the first few years. Last year I bought a 3-year old Land Cruiser for about $35K (which sold for $60K new). I love it. Anyway, is it a smart idea to buy a used laptop? I have a desktop computer (HP Pentium 4, 2.53 GHz, 512 RAM) that works fine and I actually like the speed better than an HP Compaq NC6000 laptop which I sometimes use (and all I know about that baby is it has an M processor). Anyway, I want to add a used laptop to help me do business when I travel and mostly for surfing. I've got a budget of about $300 but I figure I'll probably have to bump that up to $400 or $500 to get something that's okay. Don't need a whole lot of storage for files. Do want built-in wifi capability. I'm a big ebay shopper too. What can I buy? Is my budget too low? What minimum specs should I look for considering my needs? What's your favorite beer?

On my laptop I have no sound what-so-ever, I've tried playing with all the sound options in my control panel and everything is as high as possible and nothing is muted, I've tried using external speakers ( logitech USB Headset ) and I still have no sound at all so i don't think that it's my laptops speakers. I'm pretty good with computer so i thought i could get my sound working but no luck. I'm wondering if this is maybe a problem with my sound card or something else, open to any and all suggestions, thank you =)
