When starting up the screen is normal, then all of a sudden it changes at the bottom of the screen into a frosted appearance with vertical lines similar to a bar code. You cant see the task bar but when the cursor is behind it the lines move in line with the cursor. ?

If you were supplied with a system restore disk, running it and following the instructions would be the simplest way to fix, although it wouldn't be quick and you may lose a lot of files and need to re-install all applications that you bought separately. If you are tech savvy enough, re-installing the video driver would be much quicker. Otherwise, taking it back to the shop to be done would probably be the most cautious route to take.

It sounds like the video card in your laptop is faulty. If it was the screen you would see the lines as soon as the machine was switched on. If the machine is still under warrenty phone the manufacturer otherwise you will need to take it in to a shop for repair.

You may have a problem with the software. I suggest you reinstall the operating system. If that does not help you probably have a problem with the monitor connection or video card. You may not be able to fix that yourself so you will have to bring it to a computer shop.

How old is your computer? If your monitor is really old it probably means that you need to get a new one. If you just bought it you really should bring it back to the shop.
