One mportant feature in laptop for traveling a lot, its lightweight. Just think that you are going to carry it all the day and it weights 7.62 lbs!

So in DELL you can get lightweight laptops with:
- XPS M1210 with 12.1" wide screen (just 4.4 Lbs!) but its around $1200
- Inspiron E1405 with a 14.1" wide screen starting at $700

Both are great for Music, Photos, watching DVD's and productivity programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. The first one is great for gaming too.

If you want more options of lightweight laptops go to http://www.newegg.com under the Notebook/laptop Section and select the weigth range you prefer.
There you may find that there is a SONY VGN-FJ170P/B of $1350 with a 14.1" wide screen that is great for traveling becasue its is very small.

HP notebooks are good.

But why not an Apple?

You can get MS Office 2004 for Mac and everything is 100% compatible with people running MS Office 2003 and earlier on Windows.

Any present day day pc you should purchase will be sufficient for school use. you could both bypass extreme priced and get one which will be better relaxing (after college) or you could bypass more low priced and get one strictly for school. be positive to ask questions about the battery/existence span before paying for a pc, if I were you, i'd get one with a battery of four hours+. One very last tip before you bypass off paying for, i'd examine prices on-line first and evaluate them with pc shops consisting of BestBuy. BestBuy has a tendency to over earnings on their electronics and that i'd propose checking prices before buying.

You may also want to try renting a few models before you buy. It's sort of like a try before you buy thing, but it does cost money.
