I recommend apple. They are great for designing and creating many things and now with Intel processors, they are even faster. I recommend a mac to anybody that wants a great computer.

If you never used a mac that's OK. Macs are very logical, easy to use and efficient. (Also don't worry about Microsoft Office Mac can work with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint when you buy the Microsoft Office for Macs) But if you need help go to the following URL http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/ . But don't worry if you are a bit stuck at the beginning you need to get used to the looks and all the differences with windows.

Did you know that Apple gives educational prices for most products they sell such as the MacBook. I forgot the actual discount but it is $100-$200 cheaper if you are a college student.
Go to http://www.apple.com/education/ for more information about the educational discounts.

PS: If money is not a big problem and if you need to use your Mac for thorough designing I recommend the MacBook Pro.

This is a tough one. Macs are great for people like graphic designers and artists, and they are a very economical option for schools, but simply put, not a lot of applications are designed for them. Some Microsoft-based system would probably better suit your needs if you are a business-person or student. Macs can be versatile if configured properly, but it can be more costly. I would personally suggest a PC, but that's just me, and I know the MacBook gets very good reviews and people are generally happy with it.

Not trying to be rude or mean, but that's like asking a question like 'Pepsi Vs. Coke, or Men Vs. Women, or Cats. Vs. Dogs'. Are you doing this on purpose, or what? Seriously, each has it's own purpose, and there are pros and cons on both ends. If you google it, you get waaay more results. Again, no offence, but for once do the research yourself. It's a sensitive topic that only you can decide for yourself. It might not be a solution, but here it is anyway.

Personally I prefer PC's over Macs. But Macs are better if you are into graphic design. They have a better interface for that.

Think of what are you going to be using your new computer for. Compare prices, specifications and best uses... then go from there and what you can afford.
