i have an altec lansing headset with mic. It worked fine on my dell inspiron which i just replaced witha latitude d820. I can hear others conversations but they cannot hear me. volume is on, device is recognized and says working properly. it is an integrated audio resident on the motherboard but I am at a loss. I returned it and got a new one thinking it was possibly the headset itself but that did not correct the problem. Is there another setting somewhere i should be configuring? Thanks

I spilt Coke on my laptop keyboard. I wiped it up and blasted air to dry it. Any remedies? How long until my laptop goes kaputt?

I purchased a laptop 2 years ago from a Power seller on eBay for £500. The positive feedback and the number of transactions gave me confidence to purchase this particular item.

However this morning I received a visit from the Metropolitan Police (who were appearing on behalf of the Nottingham Police Force) that the laptop I had purchased was actually stolen.

They requested that I hand it over as part of their evidence for their case. I bought the Laptop in good faith, unknowing it was stolen. I have 2 years worth of photos, emails, videos and documents that I have to give up?

Please advise me on what steps I can take.

I've heard that I can and I've heard that I can't get a new processor for my Apple iBook G4 laptop. I want to play the Sims 2, but the system requirements say I must have at least a 1.2 GHz proceessor and mine is only 1.04. Is there anything I can do to make the game play (properly) on my system? I'm not into the slowmotion, choppy game playing.

Every time I load my laptop I get a message saying the power source could not be determined and that I should use a specific one, but this is the dell power source that came with the laptop and I've been using it for several months. The Laptop will still turn on while the power supply is plugged in, but the second I take it out (no matter how long I've left it charged) the battery is at low levels and won't charge when it's plugged in. Any ideas what I should do? Anyone had this happen before?

I just installed 512 MB of RAM into a laptop replacing a 256 MB stick. I wanted to replace the other 256 MB stick with another 512 to bring the computer up to 1 GB of ram, but it was very difficult to get to the other DIMM slot. Because of this, I just left the other 256 along with the new 512 bringing the RAM up to 768 MB. Will this harm my computer at all or am I helping by giving it more RAM?

My daughter and I are both users on my Compaq laptop computer. When I am logged on as myself, I have no problems, but when my daughter logs on, it will shut down on her after a half hour or so. She mostly plays games on there, but I play some games as well and have no problems. This happens whether or not I am logged on.

I do not believe it is an overheating issue, since it only happens to her, and not to me.

I have Norton Antivirus running, as well as Spy Sweeper and Ad Aware. They run on both profiles.

I am hopeful that this problem can be solved without the infusion of large amounts of money, so I'm turning to all the techies out in Yahoo Land before I take it in somewhere to be diagnosed.

Thanks in advance for all your great answers.

i'm looking for a laptop that will allow me to work away from the studio, not necessarily as a PC replacement but capable of doing the majority of things fast. i'll be running a number of graphics programs using large files - AutoCAD, photoshop, 3dsmax, sketchup. i'd also like it to be lightish and to be as thin as possible. i do some gaming, playing tomb raider etc and would like to use wifi, but it'd be a secondary to the ability to work. i also edit films and mp3s so something capable of running editing facilities at top speed would be handy. i'd have a top-end budget of £1000 but wouldn't want to spend much more than £700-800. any recommendations? maker? model? shops etc?

I bought my current laptop 2 years ago, Acer with Centrino Technology (not the current Duo one). It is supposed to last 7 hours fully charged, but now it only last about 3 - 4 hours.

What should I do? I still need the laptop, therefore am not selling or buying any new ones.

You see I was trying to split it into 2 partitions, one for the OS and the other for the crap that I wanted but as I tried to do so with Partition Magic 8 the option of split partition was unavailable.

I have an iBook G4 that I bought last year. The new Macbook sounds real good, is it worth buying the newer model? I do use my laptop everyday.
