When your computer runs low on chip memory, it stores the excess on your hard drive in virtual memory. Your OS is set up to allow x number of megabytes to be stored on the HD. When you run low on it, it wants to allocate more space on the HD. Thats all. Try adding more RAM

OK the guy that answered this question first is the closest to the correct answer. And yes you can add more memory but that will only delay the error from recurring. If you go to the control panel to system - system properties - advanced tab - click on settings in the box for perfomance - click on the advanced tab in this new screen titled performance options - click on the change button and but the mark in system managed size - then click set then ok and apply all the way out.
Doing this will allow windows to manage the size eitherup or down as needed rather then having a set amount.

Virtual memory is fake memory on the hard drive, if your hard drive is full there is no room for virtual memory.

for the computer operating system is to b run on that.
os(operating system ) needs some memory to run on system
may be its RAM, CACHE or some space on hard disk.if system is running slow or syaing virtual memory low it means either too many programmes are running or it has low ram , cache i.e. virtual memory .it can be avoided by either increasing RAM,or delteing some files on Hard dsk where os is intalled.

means you are running to many programs. close some of the windows open, your PCs RAM is only so big and when you go past the random access memory limit your programs will lag or not run at all cause PC to freeze up
Some common problems that can cause this message are:
Too many unnecessary programs are currently running
Spyware or Viruses have taken over your system
Improper configuration and setup of certain programs

It is space on your hard drive that the operating system uses like RAM. Cleaning your hard drive (deleting temp files/folders, un-used programs, etc.) can fix this problem. Download and run Ccleaner from http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner this should take care of all that for you.

It is the memory space you have allowable for downloaded programs ,pics, music ,etc....
You need to copy some of your files to disk to free up some space.
