I want to buy a laptop that i very nice and nicely priced. its a 17in and weighs almost 8 pounds. for those who actually have a 17 in laptop, is that too heavy for a soon to be college student?

We have both a 17" and a 15.4" Laptop. The smaller one wight 4 pounds, and is much better for classes, especially if you are running late. The 8 pound one, if you are going to take it to class, is not very practical, Due to the fact that books are very heavy as well. I would go for a smaller screen that weighs less. Good Luck!!

My son started law school last Sept. He got a 17in. He loves the machine but hates the weight. If he had to do again, he would go with 15.4in.

its not to bad i have a dell xps and its not bad at all. it has a 17" on it and packed full of goodies so its all good check out the xps by dell.

it doesnt matter, it's the books thats going to kill u.
