Every time I load my laptop I get a message saying the power source could not be determined and that I should use a specific one, but this is the dell power source that came with the laptop and I've been using it for several months. The Laptop will still turn on while the power supply is plugged in, but the second I take it out (no matter how long I've left it charged) the battery is at low levels and won't charge when it's plugged in. Any ideas what I should do? Anyone had this happen before?

It sounds like your internal power jack is faulty. They get loose sometimes after plugging and unplugging it. You can either call Dell, or you can take it to a computer store to have it repaired.

I recommend finding a good local computer store to fix it up.

The battery may be bad and not capable of holding a charge.

Also, I have had this with many Dell Laptops.
The DC converter which is what charges the battery may be dead, so it will still run but not charge.

One simple thing though, there may be a loose screw near where the battery contacts meet inside the laptop. Look for missing screws on the bottom. (On the Lattitudes it was near the center of the laptop on the bottom.)

If this isn't the case, it may be cheaper to get a separate battery charger.
