The hard drive on my computer is messed up and I want to delete it and reinstall Windows. However, I have 5,000 songs on there and I don't want to lose those. Can I create a new partition on my hard drive and put all the songs into there?

BIOS at startup of IBM shows BIOS and video are shadowed. How do I turn this off?

I thought I browsed all option on my BIOS but didn't see it. Is this because BIOS went to default setting where it was previously set to start off a network?

Chip type: ATI Radeon Graphics Processor (0x7145)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Display Memory: 382 MB

I had a computer who's power supply went out on me. I have all my files and everything on this computer and need access to them. I was wondering if there is some sort of way to connect my hard drive to a usb port? (What are the odds that the hard drive got erased?) I looked on Newegg and came up with this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186015

Would this do what I need it to do?

I just built my very first system from scratch. I'm pretty sure everything is connected properly. BUT when i plug in the power and turn on the power supply... there's a terrible screeching noise coming from the power supply. I don't have another power supply to test. And the motherboard LED light doesn't go on when i plug in the power.

Please help.... I don't want to return the parts... cause I will have to rebuild it again... It took me an hour to build it (pretty fast for a starter). If anything is actually wrong with the parts, I guess i just have to get the replaced.

Many thanks in advance.

i'm looking at two desktop computer packages.
1. Hewlett-Packard - Pavilion 4200+ Desktop a6000n
AMD LIVE! Smarter Digital Entertainment; AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core processor 4200+; 1GB DDR2 SDRAM; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; LightScribe labeling; 250GB hard drive; Windows Vista Home Premium
$500

2)Hewlett-Packard - Pavilion E4400 Desktop a6120n
Intel® Core™2 Duo desktop processor E4400; Intel® Viiv™ technology; 2GB DDR2 SDRAM; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; LightScribe technology; 320GB hard drive; Windows Vista Home Premium
$760

Both come with 17 inch flat panel monitor and all in one hp printer.
Of course, i know one has more ram and hard drive than the other.
My main question is about the processors. I've been told that the athlon dual core is the best out there right now, but i don't know too much about that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for a CPU replacement\upgrade and just curious on which core would be better to get for a P4 3.0GHz socket 478.

The Northwood 3.0Ghz\512KB L2 or Prescott 3.0GHz\1MB L2?

Both have HyperThreading and 800MHz FSB

So i just built myself a custom comp, courtesy of newegg, except it wont power up! when i turn on the main power supply, the indicator LED on the mobo lights up, but when i push the power button, my fans (including the CPU fan) click real quick and then stop, as though they wanted to start but something shorted them out right away. anyone know of something that might cause the comp to do this? I just recieved the parts a few days ago, so an RMA through newegg for DOA parts is no problem.

Computer won't do anything. I checked cables. everything. I saw a little "fuse" or something that was blown on the motherboard so obviously that's the problem. I took the hard drive out of the computer and now i'm wondering what to do to recover the data. It's a serial ata hard drive and it runs win xp pro. my brother has a new computer that runs vista.... could i use that computer?. will the hard drive show the data and work?. should i install the hard drive on another xp computer?... what are the steps to take to recover that data from the hard drive?... MY WHOLE LIFE IS IN THERE.. .. i know i should have had a backup... but some people don't learn... please help i don't want to loose all my important data...i promise i would buy a backup drive right now!!!!

I thought i fried my motherboard, but then when i plugged it in today, to check if i had everything plugged in right, it spun up the drives, and then i got a beep code.... 1-3-3-1.. autosize DRAM i looked it up... and i said that my memory was mis matched... i checked it, and it was so i pulled the non-OEM stick and plugged it back in. It started to boot as soon as i plugged it in and there was no beep codes, and nothing on the monitor.

Components:
Cognac 10993 Motherboard
Voodoo 2 Video accelerator [SLI]
OEM Seagate 8 GB HDD
OEM FD Drive
Generic 52X CD drive
Maxtor 32 GB Harddrive [as slave, same channel as CD drive]
Intel Celeron processor 466Mhz [socket 370]
umm...if you want to know anything else, let me know

Help please. I really like this PC and if it isn't dead, i don't want to have to buy a new motherboard
