Pretty simply, if you are getting a laptop you get the Turion, if you are getting a desktop you get the Athlon. This is not a mix and match situation, they are built for different platforms.

In terms of raw-performance, the Athlon 64 is better than the Turion. However, the Turion is better built for laptop and can save you a lot more battery-life. The performance difference also isn't too significant, meaning you might not even notice the difference. Given the choice of the 2, you should definitely go for the Turion.
