I just built my very first system from scratch. I'm pretty sure everything is connected properly. BUT when i plug in the power and turn on the power supply... there's a terrible screeching noise coming from the power supply. I don't have another power supply to test. And the motherboard LED light doesn't go on when i plug in the power.

Please help.... I don't want to return the parts... cause I will have to rebuild it again... It took me an hour to build it (pretty fast for a starter). If anything is actually wrong with the parts, I guess i just have to get the replaced.

Many thanks in advance.

Sounds like your power supply is defective. If the LED on the motherboard isn't turning on, it's looking like it's not getting juice. Try flicking the on off button on the back off the power supply to see if the fan even turns on. If it does and stays on, you've probably got the cables in wrong. Mainly the 4/8 pin and the 20/24 pin ones. If that doesn't work, get a new PSU.

Check to make sure that nothing is pushing against the many fans that are in the computer.(Power Supply, Video Card, Processor/Heat Sink, ect). I helped my friend build his system and there was a wire from the power supply near the fan of the video card and it was making a bunch of noise. If you have a previous computer, you can take out the power supply from that and test to see if something is wrong with your motherboard.

yeah, u plugged the led, power, reset, speaker, and some other small wires which are located down the mother board in the wrong place. should be like left down if u are viewing it from the top. u need to get the manual or u can try to figure it out nad plug it in the right place. it has to make 1 beep in order for it to work.

I would exchange the power supply with a different brand. If you MB light is not comming on, then you are not getting power to it. The only thing that it can be is the power supply. That is also what is probably making your noise.

the fan in the power supply is rubbing on something check it for a wire rubbing the fan and use a toothpick to move it with the computer turned off if you see one

Check if all the parts are connected. That's mainly why computers make strange noises like that: Faulty connections.

Just return the PS; 90% chance that's it.
