Check to see what you have, it could be that your system can only play CD's.

A few things. You can use an external DVD Drive if you have a P3 or higher, with enough Ram. You can also change out you CD Rom to a DVD, check with the manufactor.

To play dvds you have to have a dvd-rom (or dvd-rw) device. Do you?

If you only have a cd-rom or cd-rw, you can't play dvds.

Check:
Control Panel-->System-->Hardware-->Device Manager and look at dvd/cd rom devices. See if you have a dvd or only cd.

If you don't have a dvd player/burner, get one put in. They're pretty inexpensive.

you need a DVD drive and a piece of software(usually comes with the drive on a disc) called a decoder to play DVD's
