I had a computer who's power supply went out on me. I have all my files and everything on this computer and need access to them. I was wondering if there is some sort of way to connect my hard drive to a usb port? (What are the odds that the hard drive got erased?) I looked on Newegg and came up with this:

Would this do what I need it to do?

It's an IDE Drive, at least that's what a computer store guy around here told me(Yes, I listened to "that guy at the store"). Is the only way to check if the surge hit my hd hoooking it up with this cord?

It's not my computer but one at my school. That's why I'm not throwing it in the tower itself.

1. That should work, as long as his hard drive is an IDE drive, and not SATA.

2. If it was only the power supply that went bad, the odds are good that the hard drive is just fine, provided it didn't get surged.

If you are going to plug this into another pc's usb port, why not just put that HDD into that pc, as a 'D' drive, and access it that way. It will work fine if the HDD wasn't fried, and will be quicker than going out to get another accessory, but it might to have an enclosure at a later date...

Don't get that because those don't work very well. You should get a hard drive enclosure which will run you anywhere between 30 to 50 dollars. You need to know which type of connection your hard drive is, whether it is SATA or EIDE.
