Desktops - July 2007

I'm a person who likes to listen to some music, look at pics and watch some movies. I definitely don't need vista on this PC so that's out of the question. I doubt I'll be using it for any gaming. I need a computer that'll be good for surfing the net. I also want to use word, excel, powerpoint and many other necessary programs. As anybody, I don't want this comuter to crash out of nowhere. I think the most memory I'll need on this computer is 40GB.

Can anybody give me an estimate on how much will this kind of PC cost me? For a bonus (higher chance for 5 points) give me a link to an exisiting PC that will fulfill my needs.

I thought I had a 350 watt psu but now I realize that I'm an idiot and only have 250 watts (not recommended for a 7950GT video card). My computer has had a few random restarts but usually overnight and not when I was actually taxing the system.

This morning I come to the computer login screen even though I hadn't restarted last night (this makes me suspect the psu). So I try to log in and then click.... off the computer goes.

Now when I try to boot up I'm only getting partial response such the led's turning on and the fan for both the heat sink and the psu.

I would like for someone to confirm my suspicions, tell me what and idiot I am for installing a 7950 on a 250 watt power supply, and maybe tell me if there's likely to be any damage to my hardware from a couple of restarts that I tried while troubleshooting.

I have 2 desktops and I want to link them to run simultaniously and share eachothers workload in an intelligent manner. I do not want to use an A-B switch. For example...If desktop 1 is running a couple applications and computer 2's is not, computer 2 would use its unused memory and/or processing power to help out desktop one and visa versa. hey right now i have a Pentium D 915 @ 4GHZ, 1GB of DDR2-800 @ DDR2-933 and ATI X1600XT. If i got the E6600 or E6700 would i notice a big difference. I mostly just email, AIM, Audio editing, alot of CD burning and the occasional Video editing.

I was shopping around for quad-cores the other day. However, my friend told me that quad-cores wouldn't work with my motherboard, because it needed two 775 sockets and not just one. He said that current quad-cores were not native and were, in effect, two C2D's on one die.

So this is my question: will the Q6600 ($266 MSRP) work on my computer?

My HP m7657c is currently using an E6300 (gross, I know) and I want better multitasking so I'm looking at C2Q's. My next choice would be a E6750 ($183 MSRP). I'd really be willing to spend the extra $83 on two more cores, but I want to make sure that I can use them. I don't know what more I can tell you; leave any questions in your "sources" and I'll try to answer them.

I just want to say
When I first go mac I was like mac is #1 windows sucks this and that but mac really sucks, mac just looks good, nothing good in looking good, there are many things on mac can't be done, and they can be done on windows.
plus not much support for mac so many really sucks Boooooooo Mac Sucks.

I have had a ton of problems with my Vaio laptop. I am considering a Mac. I basically just use the internet, my classes are online also, write papers, listen to music and store photos on my computer. Should I choose a Mac or a PC? I was debating between a Dell or an iMac probably.

I am trying to install xp on my macbook. using bootcamp
I am getting error,
when making partition
"Verification failed. This disk could not be partitioned.
Use Disk Utility to repair this disk."
when I try to use disk utlity to make partition
I see there
"this disk contains the startup volume and can't be partitioned."

please please help me install xp on my macbook permanently, I want both mac os x & xp on it

Ive installed 2g Ram, Ati X1950pro, all latest drivers for card,sound,bios,motherboard,directx and a 650w power supply to cope.... Running P4 Dell dimension 8300, 2g ddr ram, X1950pro 512mb card.. keep getting crashes cant run 3D test for speed or my fav game EverQuest.. what else could it be? Bios will only allow to to put AGP to 256mb max, when card is 512mb!.. whats up with that! ...Comp Wiz help!

Can't open my external hard drive enclosure to put my HD in?

My original sd ram was 256mb 133hz.
Initially i purchased a less frequency RAM(67Hz) than the one iam already having installed in my PC.When i installed it a serious error report was created which diagnosed that the error was mostly caused by RAM, to solve the error Windows recommended to upgrade my BIOS.Could u identify the reason of getting the PC hanged up in the middle when i have correctly installed the 256 mb 133Hz SD RAM?

I need to upgrade my 220W PSU with a 500+W PSU. I don't know the size or how to change it. I know what a MOBO is though and how they connect (those white things that just slip in the components?

Are the PSU wires colour coded / MOBO's coded?
