Well, I have a custom built PC that I got made for me via Cyberpower. THey're a pretty reputable company that you can trust with getting what you asked for. You can cutomize everything, and the best part is that they only charge a 10% service charge for building it. It usually takes about 2 weeks to make a get it shipped out to you, but depending if you want it the next day, you can pay a little extra. Take a look and see if you can find something you like.

Well if you want a gaming pc already done for you then the Dell XPS would be fine but most gaming pc's are custom built a good spec for a gaming pc is Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 2GB DDR2 Memory, 160GB Hard Disk, Nvidia GeForce 8600GT and up and Windows XP Pro. Windows Vista does not like many of the current games!

Depends on the money you have available
The dell XPS range offer introductory machines for gamers £1200 would get you something ok, up to £2500.
Then you are talking alienware territory, and what I used to think were the nuts when it came to bare faced gaming power ( most magazines use alienware products to test and review games on ) £2500 - £5000
(but seeing as Dell own Alienware - you kinda get the idea why they introduced the XPS under their own name lots of money to be made directing sales at gamers)
There are more expensive PC's to be bought ready made, but for that sort of money, I really suggest you learn how to buy stuff yourself and put it together for a fraction of the cost.

It depends what you have available.
If you wanna wast a load of money on one, then use www.alienware.co.uk or www.voodoopc.com/omen.aspx .
But if you actually have a reasonable budget but want to push for the best deals out there then theres lots of good alternatives. But these are depending where you live.
I know alot from UK, as i live their, so if your from the uk then the following paragraph will help, but if not then sorry.
http://www.cyberpowersystem.com
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/
http://www.meshcomputers.com/
For the USA, This is what i found, but as i've never used it before i dont know what its like:
http://www.ibuypower.com/mall/lobby.htm
And just noticed your called GreginUk, so i can assume you are from the UK!

For gaming the best pre-made systems are probably AlienWare. If you want to truly get a hard core gaming machine then you need to find a local place that does custom computers. If you go custom you can go as hardcore as your budget can afford and you'll get more bang for your buck then with a pre-made system.

um i think alien ware are the best (non custom built) computers for gaming they are built from the ground up for computer gaming once you get it you will be able to upgrade it if you need anything else like more ram. but alien ware is your best bet.
DONT GET A APPLE COMPUTER THEY CANT PLAY THAT MANY GAMES AND YOU HAVE TO BUY ALL THE SOFTWARE YOU CAN PLAY 1/10 GAMES YOU CAN ON A WINDOWS THIS IS A FAIR WARNING
