I'm a person who likes to listen to some music, look at pics and watch some movies. I definitely don't need vista on this PC so that's out of the question. I doubt I'll be using it for any gaming. I need a computer that'll be good for surfing the net. I also want to use word, excel, powerpoint and many other necessary programs. As anybody, I don't want this comuter to crash out of nowhere. I think the most memory I'll need on this computer is 40GB.

Can anybody give me an estimate on how much will this kind of PC cost me? For a bonus (higher chance for 5 points) give me a link to an exisiting PC that will fulfill my needs.

Unfortunatly, you're gonna have to get Vista if you want it or not. Dell supposedly sells Linux but you can't use word, excel, power point, etc. on those, and no one (except small manufacturers) sell computers with XP anymore. Do you specifically not want Vista, or do you just not care? Oh, on another note, nobody does 40GB hard drives any more (which is what you meant, not memory), they're just too small. You might find an 80GB but nothing smaller than that. You could go as low as $400 or so, but you'd have a much easier time (things loading up faster) at a $600 or so price point. Unless you can't afford that extra $200 at all, I'd go for it. India will have cheaper PCs than you can find new in USA (I'm assuming you're in USA because you didn't state otherwise).

Here's one for $375. I wouldn't go less than this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883107188 it also has XP Media Center (it's an older PC) for you, incase you specifically didn't want Vista.

For $610 you can have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883107294 It's quite a step up from the last one, but it has Vista.

You're not really going to need to get a more expensive PC than that. Of 'course a more expensive PC will be faster, however you're wasting your money after that one.

If you need additional help, or are looking at a different price point, email me (there's a link in my profile).

I hear E-Machines are pretty good for the average user and that sounds like the kind of machine you need that will do what you need without breaking the bank. They were rated high in Consumer Reports as a PC packed with features and i think they come in around $400.Best Buy sells them, check it out!

You mean 40GB as the size of the harddrive? Or 40GB of RAM? I'm betting its harddrive because 40gb of RAM is impossible!

Just click on one of those desktops and click customize, customize it to fit your needs and the price you'e willing to pay.
