I currently have a Compaq Presario S4220NX. I checked the computer to find that I have an AGP slot for a video card. But right now my monitor is plugged into the motherboard (I do not currently have a video card) and I did some research and found that I am going to have to do a little extra to make this things work. I was wondering if anyone else has had to do a similar process, if anyone could direct me to a site that helps with computers with no previous video card, and could tell me generally if it is difficult or if a newbie like me could pull it off.

Note: I'm experienced with computers, I've just never put in a video card before.

Ok so I'm looking into buying a new graphics card for my computer, mainly because I need a new one that is going to be compatible with Sims 2 (My current graphics card isn't supported.) and I need to know the following:
A. Need to know how to find out if a graphics card is going to be compatible with my computer.
B. What graphics card (I've been looking at a GeForce FX5200 on my local pc stores website for the past couple of days and it is a supported one) that is a supported card, would be good for playing sims 2.
Ok so I only need to know that one thing...

If its going to help, I have a PowerSpec 8921(I got it as a gift from my dad so I didn't buy it.)
I know enough about my computer, but something like a graphics card is a little new to me, but I'm learning.

I just bought a small KVM switch for my home office that lets me use one USB keyboard, USB mouse, and SVGA monitor between my personal desktop PC and my company's laptop. It works great. The KVM switch specifies which USB port to put the mouse into and which one to put the keyboard into. Which surprises me. I wouldn't have thought it made a difference, but the switch does provide feedback to the computers so they don't go bananas when suddenly all their peripherals disappear. So maybe it does, somehow, make a difference.

My ultimate question is this - if I plugged a USB hub into, say, the mouse's USB port on the KVM switch, and then plugged both the mouse AND my USB printer into the hub... would it work? Would it share the printer between the two?

Here's what happens: I just installed Sims 2. It will open the program (the program appears in the tool bar and I hear the introductory music of the game) but the program won't run, (as it used to automatically) even when I click on the program in the tool bar).
Here are some possibilities:
1. My dad didn't remove the original graphics card and the Sims 2 was previously installed on my computer(I had to re-install it for some reason) because he wanted me to be able to use it if the new one breaks.
2. Could this simply be because an auto-run setting is disabled?
Additional Info:
1. Computer: Dell Dimension 2400, 1.1 Gig of RAM, 3.66 Ghz Pent 4.
2 Graphics card: GeForce 6200, 256 RAM
I am not technologically savvy, but I try. Please help me!

I am going to buy the game "Battlefield 2142", but i found one of the compatible video drivers in the system requiremtn was NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 or more. Unfortunately, my computer has NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, and I am not sure if my computer has a NVIDIA card or not. Because of this, i went to the NVIDIA website to update my video driver, but somehow, it does not work. It said something like "it cannot find any drivers that are compatible to your hardware". Can anyone tell me what kind of problem is this and how to solve it?

I bought this computer 2 years ago and I just realized that the computer has an integrated video card on the motherboard itself. Along with that, I just bought a new video card (PCI) and was wondering what the procedure is to install this new video card. Do I need to uninstall the old video card or does the new video card automatically override the integrated video card?

thanks in advanced.

I have a problem and need help desperately. About 6 months or so ago, my hubby bought an external hard drive, a Maxtor 3200 to use to store the novel he's writing. He got it just in case if the computer ever crashed, he wouldn't lose his book. Its been working great, no problems, etc. Until tonight. He got home from work, logged on and the I drive (which is the drive for the external hard drive) was gone. He couldn't access his novel. I went to the control panel and checked under device manager and it said it was working properly. I tried unplugging it, rebooting, plugging it back in and everything, but no matter what I do, I can't get it to come back. I've tried different USB ports and everything, with the same results.

Can you please please tell me what I can do to get this back, or else he's screwed. Thats the only place he saved it in.

I appreciate any help you guys can offer. But please, if you aren't sure what to do, don't advise, I can't afford to lose this.

I have looked all over the internet but still can't solve my problem. Everytime I click the icon to play Sims 2 Pets, it would then say "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."
But I DO have DirectX 9.0 on my Win XP Home Edition!! Now i figure I need the RIGHT display driver. -__- My current display device is an Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller. I've updated it many times -UNSUCCESSFULLY. Did anyone have the same problem before?
My other question is: Can I download a NVIDIA GeForce Driver even if my computer has the Intel(R) display device?? Will that make my Sims 2 game work or destroy my computer instead?

I just installed a new SONY 16x+18X DVD±RW DUAL DOUBLE LAYER BURNER AWQ170A in my Dell Dimension 3000. It will recognize DVDs, but it won't recognize CDs of any type. I have tried changing the cable setup and jumper settings to no avail. I even removed the other CD-ROM that was installed on the same cable and the problems remains. Any suggestions for futher diagnose or remedy would be greatly appreciated.
