it's a portable hard drive I saw on ebay so it doesn't require an enclosure like external hard drives.

yes, it can. without a fan to cool it off over long periods of time, the USB hard drive can overheat. the best way to do with something like a fanless USB hard drive is to get another kind. the thing will break easily if no fan! i didn't ever thought that there even was a fanless hard drive.

I recently purchased a USB Drive enclosure for a laptop (2.5Inch) drive. This enclosure has no ventilation either. Unlike normal drives, the new enclosure systems spin down the drive until access is requested, thereby dramatically reducing heating and eliminating the need for a fan.

GO for it.....they are a great way to recycle the smaller hard drives for continued use..........

Tengo un par de memorias de USB comprados en los sitios internet y siempre han sido de buena calidad, he visto algo diferente e interesante y le he comprado enseguida, aunque no es el mejor producto de mercado, el diseño me gusta un montón y para los documentes es perfectos además lo uso como llavero, una compra muy buena.

I have one and have had no problems with it. However, I only use it for backing up files so it doesn't run on a regular basis.
