Can I use a rubber glove instead of a "static wrist strap" to install memory into a Computer? with no damage to the memory?

Rubber can stop you for being electrocuted am I right, so does it work for static electricity as well?

working. I then puchased a new one which also will not work. I am getting a message saying the PC is unable torecognise the USD device. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB adapter and also tried reformatting the Desktop PC with no effect. I know its not the USB adapter itself as when I attach it to my laptop it is recognised. I'm running windows XP Home edition.
Anyone know what the problem is?

I accidentally changed the setting for the dpi on my scanner and now I can't figure out what the setting needs to be. The scans come out grainy at 1200MB. I tried setting it at a higher dpi, 2400, and it states that I am scanning at too many MB. Any suggestions? Could it be something else that is wrong with the scanner?

I built my own computer in 2002 and it's now starting to give out. Mainly the motherboard. I have a Soltek Socket A type mobo that just died and I would like to know what kind of a motherboard I should buy that will still be able to use my old hardware. Mainly, I want to be able to still use:

- my old CPU, an AMD 1800+/266 ATHLON 1.53ghz.
- my system memory, which is three sticks of Crucial Technology 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Desktop Memory

Do I need to get a Socket A mobo or can I get any other AMD-supported motherboard?

Also, does it pay off more just to get a new mobo and a new CPU. I really don't need to use the computer for too much.

My company purchased a large number of these monitors (viewsonic vg2030wm) - but we're having an issue. The only resolution that looks "normal" is 1680 by 1050. However, this resolution is way too high for the majorty of employees here. Every other setting is stretched horizontally or vertically. The correct drivers are installed. We're quite a bit frustrated that only the highest setting looks normal. Is there anything we can do to fix this without having to send dozens of monitors back? Thanks!

I mainly just want to use a lap-top for word processing and printing. But if my access to the internet ceases away from home, I may have to establish a connection and access at home.
(As I wouldn't be able to afford the expense of broadband, I would need to purchase a pre-paid dial up connection instead)
However I don't use the internet for games, video editing, graphics, etc.

I could buy either 1 of 2 HP Compaq Presario's
The cheaper one, is the C710TU with:
Celeron M 530 (533 MHz) processor and 512 RAM

compared to the C719TU model with:
Duo Core Processor and 1 GB of RAM.

(Both come with Windows Vista - one of the Home Editions/versions)

I used to be a Mac person...was raised with Apples since kindergarten, and I'm talking old sh*t - (though I have nothing but respect and admiration for those who were into computers before me! Yay for old hackers! :-) Seriously.)

In school, we used Apple II's, IIe, IIc, IIgs. Later the cursed 52xx all in one series, and the LC/Performa 5xx series, etc. And later, iMacs.

Our family had several kinds of Macs as well, including a Quadra 950 and IIfx.

But, I digress.

I switched to PC in 9th grade, personal choice, and have never looked back. I realized that I needed to actually DO stuff with a computer...and I enjoy building my own and tinkering, something you never could do that well with Macintosh's.

As for Apple's current incarnation of it's OS...well, I barely recognize it...the last one I used with any regularity was 8.6...so a while ago.

So, what are you? Mac or PC?
Why? Why not?
I'd love any answers, verbose or spartan, because frankly, I'm bored :-)
