I used to be a Mac person...was raised with Apples since kindergarten, and I'm talking old sh*t - (though I have nothing but respect and admiration for those who were into computers before me! Yay for old hackers! :-) Seriously.)
In school, we used Apple II's, IIe, IIc, IIgs. Later the cursed 52xx all in one series, and the LC/Performa 5xx series, etc. And later, iMacs.
Our family had several kinds of Macs as well, including a Quadra 950 and IIfx.
But, I digress.
I switched to PC in 9th grade, personal choice, and have never looked back. I realized that I needed to actually DO stuff with a computer...and I enjoy building my own and tinkering, something you never could do that well with Macintosh's.
As for Apple's current incarnation of it's OS...well, I barely recognize it...the last one I used with any regularity was 8.6...so a while ago.
So, what are you? Mac or PC?
Why? Why not?
I'd love any answers, verbose or spartan, because frankly, I'm bored :-)

Well, you won't find me among the hordes of scoffers b*tching about the capabilities of a Macintosh - or rather the capabilities it supposedly *doesn't have. I'm well aware of what those powerful machines can do.
Now...as for their operating system...that's a whole other can of worms.
I'm just-barely loyal to the brand and don't go around bashing...because, hey...they were my favorite for more than half my life.
*raises a proverbial class to the good ol' days of Apple Macintosh* :-)

I came up under the exact same circumstances. My first computer was an apple ][c (or rather my dad's first computer) I spend all day working on various computers. desktops, laptops servers all of it. for servers it's all PC running Linux, for workstation desktops, same.
But at home...
At home I have Old HP NX 9600 running Ubuntu gutsy with VMware server stacked on Beryl. That gives me Windows XP on one face, and a brand new install of the latest OSX on another. Of the two.. Mac OSX is the superior operating system, Windows is useful but shoddy, and you just can't beat a PC running some slick Linux with all sorts of neat bells and whistles.
If I was to buy a brand new laptop, and could get whatever i wanted. Mac all the way.

For one thing, I prefer PCs more than Macs because they have more support. Macs, on the other hand, are way too expensive and not worth the extra cash. With PCs I could use the extra money to further upgrade my computer and so on.
I own a PC - Windows XP Professional to be exact and it never hung on me since the day I bought it. It runs on dual core processors and has 2GB RAM. These kinds of configurations really bring out the best of your computer. TAKE THAT APPLE!!!
I'm still using Windows XP Professional and with the extra money I upgraded my video card, bought a LCD monitor, and a touchpad for a desktop. I was worth it unlike those who bought Macs and have no money to upgrade and buy accessories.

well personally i used/use macs every once in a while, i was a windows user since windows 95 all the way up to windows xp. then decided to try out linux a year and a half ago, so i did, and NEVER looked back. i have used vista i work on vista sometimes ... but to tell you the truth. nothing compares to linux when it comes to power / stability / configurations/ and control. and it has much nice effects ( if i was in the mood). and it comes in two flavors KDE and GNOME. and 100's of distributions so there got to be one that suits ur needs. All programs are free, and it has all i need from office to editing tools to intant messengers and others. and best of all it is teh most secure platform ( MOSt of our servers run linux).
at first i played with linux a little bit and i thought that it was temporarily and im going back to windows. but guess what it got me hooked. there is noway ill ever be comfortable working behind a windows box.
mmm lets say that i have tried the 3 major platforms on a computer.

The people who answer about Macs being more expensive needed to do their homework. Latest articles, surveys, whatever, show that while a Mac may cost more initially, the price compared to a PC is the same when you consider resale value, maintenance, software, and tech support. When you phone Apple tech support, someone from North America answers, not from India. Add the fact there are 115,000 more Windows viruses and Macs are safer to use.

I have a PC but I would kill to have a Mac any day!!! They're the best by far. Plus, since there's Boot Camp Mac's are 10X more practical (although I don't plan on using windows ever again once I've got a Macbook).

Uuuh tough question it is, but I just go ahead with your question. Firstly i'm proud of Apple and i'm a designer, but i'm using PC/Windows based as my platform. So mostly my job are born using PC/Windows LOL
Then I find my PC are hardly need a lot of upgrades to satisfied my lust, but Apple are the answer unfortunately Apple are way expensive for me especially G's series (dang), the PC are higher and expensive too but we can upgrade it SLOOOOWWLLYYY.
So the summary is used the Apple for web or anything that need to design, then if you're a hardcore gaming then probably I'll choose PC or console yeah C2D rules man!!!

I have OS X and Windows on my Dell Windows Laptop. I love XP for Games and OS X for Music and Web Browsing and Code Development.
If you're not into games then the Mac is a good choice cause it can dual boot XP/Vista flawlessly. It also supports VMWare and Desktop Parallels.

Hi, I use PC's cause I can customize them to however I want, and also because a PC superior to a Mac is still cheaper then a Mac. I don't use Microsoft Windows though. I like Linux more better, and Linux gives me complete control over my computer.
Good Luck!

Mac user since 2000.
You say you haven't used one since System 8.6 which was back in the so called "dark days" of Apple history just as Steve was coming back to Apple....
lots of code under has flowed down the Nile since then, most of it Unix flavoured. I started in studying graphic design on System 9.2.2
Those who say you can't do anything on a Mac have either never used one or don't know how.

Its not that you "can't" do it on a Mac, you just do it different than you would in Windows with less fuss.
