working. I then puchased a new one which also will not work. I am getting a message saying the PC is unable torecognise the USD device. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB adapter and also tried reformatting the Desktop PC with no effect. I know its not the USB adapter itself as when I attach it to my laptop it is recognised. I'm running windows XP Home edition.
Anyone know what the problem is?

belkin requires specific drivers from the supplied CD - You must install the drivers before installing the adapter.
I suggest that you uninstall anything to do with Belkin and then re-install the drivers and application from the CD.
Then plug in the adapter when asked to do so.
Good luck.
By the way, Belkin have a lifetime warranty on all their products so if it's faulty have it replaced via the website.

If you have reformatted the PC and it has not resolved the issue, you have elimnated any changes that it is a software or settings issue within Windows. That means it is hardware. The USB port itself may have gone bad. (Somebody "bumped" the stick while it was plugged in and damaged it for example)

If you have additional USB ports on the computer try a different one. If not, you may have to add a PCI card with USB ports.

You might be having troubles with your usb drivers, try plugging in the cat5 cable and see if your internet will run with that. If not it may be your wireless drivers. Try going into your control panel then to your device manager, then ininstall your wireless adapter , the computer should automatically sense it and reinstall the drivers for it and see if that helps.

Try uninstalling the belkin wireless network, and then go into your program files and manually delete the Belkin folder. download ccleaner http://ccleaner.com and clean your registry. re install it and plug your adapter into a DIFFERENT USB port.

Goodluck.

sounds like a Com port conflict... usually caused by another modem.. check your com settings for conflicts.

The only way is to get closer to the router, whichever card you use.
