Hardware - September 2007

My Dell laptop, granted, is a pretty old model. It always has to be plugged in via the cable or else it goes dead within a minute. I bought a new battery for it, and tried unplugging it, but with this battery, it went dead even faster! So I don't think the battery is the problem. What to do?

...now bearing in mind i have no data from the old drive to transfer ....is the process still that same.do i just in fact put the new drive in and the installation disc and go from there

Is there a place to go look this up? Has anyone heard of this SpyHunter's SpamBlocker Utility? I tried to download Windows Defender and I can't do that either. I can't afford a good antivirus program right now. I am using AVG antivirus right now. Any suggestions? Thanks!

i have a geforce 7500 LE graphics card but i cant seem to run the graphics in high settings for some newer games
i have 2 gig of ram which is ok i guess

Due to computer problems and upgrading, about the only thing I need to build a second system is a case. This would be for mass storage, back up, etc. And doesn't have to be state of the art to set the world on fire.

The only thing I need is a case which a local computer store said usually runs about 12 bucks. Then the operating system. I run XP on my system but I don't think I can install that on a system system for more than 30 days. I can install Win98 or ME.

Is it true that when you buy the XP you can only put it on one computer you own? And, if the answer is yes, I've heard that Win98 is more stable than ME. I'm thinking just for basic use, mass storage, etc. Either 98 or ME would be acceptable. Comments? Suggestions?

I ran test on NVIDIA site to see if my pc was SLI capable, and it says it is (NodusM3-GL8E motherboard). However I only have 1 PCI-E x16 slot and 3 PCI slots, so is it possible to have SLI?

i have a dell inspiron 1501 laptop and was wondering how much faster it will make my computer if i upgrade my ram from 1.5GB to 2GB which is its max. Also do u think its worth it. The way i look at it its the only way to upgrade my laptop.

I bought a barebones PC from a no name company about 5 years ago and the noise made it impossible to use the computer for anything besides gaming with the volume turned up high to block the noise.

I'm looking into getting a new PC this Christmas and want to get the new Phenom processor. One of the concerns I have is that almost every review I read of the high end gaming computers says that with the additional power comes additional heat and that they're very loud.

Would a water cooled system always be quieter than an air cooled one? How are you supposed to evaluate ahead of time how quiet a system is before you buy it?

hi iv just brought a 320 gb from maplin and im pritty disenpointed there nuthing wrong the device accept.
its not 320 GB its a total space 298 with free space at 296
what should i do any way its takeing so long to move all my files to the external device by USB/firewire.

I'll spare you the gory details, but I had to rearrange my home office which now requires my printer to be 26 feet away from my PC. I haven't been able to find any 26 ft long USB cables. Does anybody know if it is possible to connect multiple USB cables. If so, how do I go about doing this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi I am planning to buy Sony VGN-CR12GH/B
laptop but confused about the processors. The said model is using processor Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7100(1.80 GHz)
