help needed as i am completely clueless with techie stuff!! i have a refurbed dell laptop and there is no modem installed, do i need to get one fitted by a professional or can you buy plug in modems????

yesterday i put a new keyboard on moms cp, it didnt work, i rebooted and still nothing. I hooked the old one back up and nothing with that one, but i noticed while starting to plug it in the lights came on then went back off, so i plugged the new one back in and the same thing happened. while starting to plug it in there were lights then right back off. Ok is it driver related? and if so, how am i going to update that with no key board to type the web site. I was told that xp has a internal key board. Please help

After my computer crashed, I put my IDE drive in a hard drive enclosure (Rocketfish), but I wasn't able to access it. The drive would not show up at all. What other methods can I access this drive?

Hi everyone, I have been using my laptop for quite a while(1 year) and my laptop starts to slow down 4 months ago. Now i am seriously irritated by it and i really feel like doing something to it now..
I check my task manager and realise that i have about 5 "IEXPLORE" and 1 "SVCHOST" that takes up most of the momory. Can i ask how do i reduce their comsumption or is there a way to keep the numbers down?
Also, i always have this feeling that my computer may be filled with virus even though i am using norton 360. Is there a better software out there that can assure me?
Lastly, is formatting good for me now? If so, is there anyway to transfer out my folders without getting any virus, if there's any in it.

I am about to Flexi-rent a MacBook Pro, when I heard that Leopard should be coming out in August. The place I am renting with gives you a free OS upgrade if you bring your computer in, so that won't be a problem, but I still have two questions.

1. Will installing Leopard over Tiger delete the stuff I have on the laptop?
- I don't want to start using a computer only to find everything is going to get deleted anyway.

2. Will they install iLife '08 and the iWork trials etc. when they install the OS?
- If not, waiting is probably the better option.

3. After Leopard is released in America, how long will it take before the MacBook Pros here in Melbourne have it pre-installed do you think?

I have a warranty tht says if you have total of 4 time a hardware failure, they will replace my laptop for free. I need ways to mess up either hard drive or whatever hardware you suggest and how do i go about doing it. Please advice. I paid nearly $2000+ for my laptop when it was new. I need to make every penny worth.

My wife and I both have HP pavilion dv6000's. Recently, my wife's computer has had 'issues' reading and writing from the dvd+rewritable drive. I can burn disks from my system, that will read on other peoples computers...but not hers. I'm thinking that maybe the drive has gone belly-up, but the properties on the device show it working normally. It will actually read some cd's, but not others. Any ideas, or suggestions on where to look? Anyone had same problem? Thanks.

I have an issue with a Windows Server 2000 (SP4) machine. The Com Plus Event System Service is not starting at startup. According to the event logs It is getting stuck in "starting" mode ant then failing.

How do I reinstall this service or otherwise fix the issue?

I have a vaio TZ190.(u7600, 1.2ghz duo, 2gb ram, 226 shared video memory) and I really want to play diablo 1, half life, warcraft 3, command and conquer red alert, and such.

I really dont care about all those new games that you need a HUGE laptop to be able to play.... I prefer the old games.
