I am about to Flexi-rent a MacBook Pro, when I heard that Leopard should be coming out in August. The place I am renting with gives you a free OS upgrade if you bring your computer in, so that won't be a problem, but I still have two questions.

1. Will installing Leopard over Tiger delete the stuff I have on the laptop?
- I don't want to start using a computer only to find everything is going to get deleted anyway.

2. Will they install iLife '08 and the iWork trials etc. when they install the OS?
- If not, waiting is probably the better option.

3. After Leopard is released in America, how long will it take before the MacBook Pros here in Melbourne have it pre-installed do you think?

Thanks

Right now they say it won't be out til October! It was supposed to beat Vista out at first wasn't it? Then got pushed to June, August and now October because of probs with it and iPhone and some say it might not be until early next year! If you get it with the free upgrade to Leopard that is full and not a trial version you may want to go ahead and get it because it doesn't appear that Leopard will be coming out soon enough for you to wait for it. Just back everything up that you don't wanna lose before you take it in for the upgrade. Even then you may want to see how Leopard is running on people's machines when it does come out cuz Apple apparently is having probs with getting it error free and it may be a disaster when it is first released.

Funny how someone that "works at Apple" doesn't know this, huh?

Firstly,

There is not really many compelling reasons to wait.

If you need something now then get it. If you don't need it wait.

Upgrading operating systems can be a bit of a hassle, and until the final release is out then you won't know how easy it is, but usually it just involves installing the new operating system and hoping.

As a general rule, unless a new operating system has a feature that I need, I wait for a while for it to be widely used and mature.

So personally I would be waiting as Leopard is unlikely to do anything that you need that the current version doesn't already do.
