there is no true use for 8x except for recent high end cards 0-1 gens old(actually when PCI-E was first introduced cards made natively for it could run on 4x mode with very little almost no performance penalty.)
But you have a pretty old processor so you should get a extra 256mb of RAM and a 7300 gt/6600gt(get them for below $60 for truly useful price to performance)

Even the 8x AGP cards would work on those slots. You could hardly find brand new 4x AGP cards these days. Consider the ATI 9550 or the faster 9600 Pro. They are both DX9 cards. Not worth it to put faster 8x AGP cards because the 4x AGP port will just slow them down.

you would be better off looking into ATI enjoying cards as they are nonetheless popping out interior the AGP bus. Nvidia dropped the AGP bus after the 7 sequence enjoying cards. i might recommend an ATI 2600XT or a 3650. There are better AGP enjoying cards like the 4000 sequence and the 3850 yet in my journey the only center CPU's that are maximum in all likelihood paired with AGP motherboards bottleneck those useful enjoying cards.

Any new AGP card will do.
