Is the 8600GT genuinly a good card or is it only the price it is because it has the DX10 compatibility?

Im thinking of getting it, because i dont do too much gaming, and as its DX10 enabled it should last me a fairly long time.

And also does DX9 cards play DX10 games, just a quick question.

And one last point/question, does direct x 10 games only work on vista, and eventually windows 7... or do they still work on good ol' XP?

If you wanna reccomend me to a diff card, i have a PCI-E socket on my mobo

If I try to plug headphones into my computer, it automatically sets all sound to "Mute," and there seems to be no way to fix it until I've unplugged the headphones and restarted the computer. It's REALLY annoying... can anyone tell me how to fix this, or do I have to accept the fact that I can never use headphones?

Some people prefer Dells desktops and Gateways laptops. I tried out a Apple desktop before and it didnt a lot of sense like working with Windows computers.

The fan assembly is inside the computer and apart of the power supply right? Because I need to do this before I put in my new power supply. Here are the directions to remove it:

Disconnect the AC power cable from the AC power connector on the back of the power supply.

Unplug the DC power cables from the drives and system board.

Disconnect the fan power cable from its connector on the system board.

Pull the fan release lever away from the back of the computer and slide the fan toward the release lever.

Remove the fan assembly from the computer

Please help me in answering: is the ac power cable the main power cable that connects to the power supply? Where is the DC cable? And is it inside the computer? I know what I'm doing, just need help :)
