The fan assembly is inside the computer and apart of the power supply right? Because I need to do this before I put in my new power supply. Here are the directions to remove it:

Disconnect the AC power cable from the AC power connector on the back of the power supply.

Unplug the DC power cables from the drives and system board.

Disconnect the fan power cable from its connector on the system board.

Pull the fan release lever away from the back of the computer and slide the fan toward the release lever.

Remove the fan assembly from the computer

Please help me in answering: is the ac power cable the main power cable that connects to the power supply? Where is the DC cable? And is it inside the computer? I know what I'm doing, just need help :)

The DC cables are the 4 Pin molex connectors, 20/24 pin motherboard connectors etc that your components plug into inside your computer. The AC power cable is the cable that goes to the wall.

Hope I helped and good luck

The AC cable is the one which goes from the wall outlet to the back of the computer... usually plugging directly into the supply unit.

The DC cables are the internal ones, supplying power to the various components of the computer. Basically, all the coloured cables which come out of the supply unit, on the inside of the computer housing.

A couple of precautions... be very sure that you disconnect the AC power before opening the case.... make a careful note of which connectors go where... take care to release the clips on the internal connectors, they don't all just pull off.... don't attempt to dismantle the supply unit itself, it has large capacitors in it,which may hold quite a charge :-)

Like everyone said already, AC is to the wall and DC is in the computer.

But what fan assembly are you talking about? Are you talking about the 1) CPU fan? 2) The fan that blows out/in of the case? 3) Or the power supply fan?

If 1) CPU Fan:
Depending on the fan type, usually you will just need to disconnect power connector from either the motherboard or the power supply, and then flip the clip that holds it over the CPU.

If 2) Fan that blows in/out of case:
Just disconnect from power supply or motherboard (depending on where you connected fan power to) and unscrew from the case

If 3) Power supply fan:
I don't think you need to touch this for most power supplies as it is built into the power supply and may void your warranty if you tamper with it (depending on the brand)

If you are just putting in a new power supply, then you don't have to worry about ANY fans. The power supply usually comes with a fan. Just remember to disconnect AV first and then all the DC cables.

The split twin connectors going to your motherboard are the dc connectors. The plug that goes from the back of the computer to the wall is the main power. There is 2 fans in your computer, one inside the power supply and one affixed to the case.
The entire computer is DC, and the ONLY AC source is what goes to the wall.

The power cable they are talking about is the one that goes from the computer to the outlet in the wall.
