I haven't seen an iBook up close enough to dismantle it. However, I have dismantled a number of other MAC computers and PC's (including PC laptops). The battery charger board is probably the daughter-board inside the laptop to which the battery is plugged in.

You cannot just feed electricity into a rechargeable battery, it needs to be regulated. Many newer batteries and chargers use a feedback loop so that the charger charges the battery at an optimal rate based on the battery's state at any given moment. That's what the charger board most likely does.

The battery itself is what converts electricity into a chemical change inside the battery unit. The chemical change is reversed when the battery is used to power the laptop - changing chemical energy back into electrical energy.

If you need a battery, you need a battery. If your battery isn't charging properly because the charger board is faulty, you may need both. Try changing the battery first. Then if your problem recurs, either the battery is DOA or the charger board is faulty too.

Yes, the charger board is an internal component of the battery.

So you need to make sure you buy the WHOLE battery and not just the charger board.

charger board : Smaløl electronic board controlling the electricity to the battery to charge it safely and correctly

battery : The actual lithium Ion / NiMh / NiCd oth other technology battery that "hold the charge" if it's a bettery you need this is what you buy, not a charge circuit.

laptop batteries are technologically advanced to provide a lot of power in a small space, hence expensive
