Alienware is VERY reliable. And they have really reliable warranties and if they ship you a faulty computer you can mail it back to them for free for an exchange/repair. They would even come to your house to provide technical support.
They will mail you a RETURN SHIPPING LABEL and you can just use that to mail it back to them, FOR FREE. Go check their return/exchange policies for Alienware warranty here: http://www.alienware.com/sub_pages/warranty.aspx

Yes. It's risky to buy a computer from a website. It's also risky to live in an apartment that 60 years old and could possibly have lead in the paint. It's also risky to eat at all these fast food restaurants...
But back to computers, buying from a reputable company would give you less worry but at the end of the day it's up to you, right? ...sorry I rambled. lol

Well-known established companies like Dell, IBM etc usually have good support and return policies. There are excellent small companies who run websites and bad ones too. At least on Ebay there's a feedback system to let you see a seller's transaction history.
By the way, Alienware (now owned by Dell) sells high-end gaming machines, but they are overpriced. You would save a TON of money buying the components from Newegg.com & assembling it yourself.

Make sure it's a credible website, these days any website can look so realistic but it's just a hackers way of getting your information. Try getting it off of the maker of the computer (like dell or compaq etc.) or getting it from places like staples, circuit city etc...Try not to get it from Best Buy becuase if it gets damaged, they take an eternity to fix it....

I have bought 5 computers on the Internet and had no problems. I always make sure that it is a trusted site and read their "fine print" thoroughly before I buy. You should also check the sites "reviews" but make surre the reviews are independant of the site where you are considering to buy from

Not if you buy from a well-known, reputable seller, like HP, Dell.
If you buy from an unknown source, you risk getting a piece of junk, no support, and a waste of money.
