about a month ago my friend's computer got infected with a virus. every so often a blue screen would appear saying fatal error must shut system down, and somthing else about memory loss, so my friend's mom called the company and they told her instead of getting a new computer , just wipe everything out and restore it as if it were new....so basicly she lost all her pictures and documents, but she didnt care, but i just don't know how to do it for my computer because mine is doing the same thing. if someone could help me i'd be extremly greatful!

My notebook battery will not charge when it is connected to the adapter. The adapter is plugged for hours, and when I disconnect it for traveling the battery is not recharged? Is is the setting on my computer, because sometimes I take out the battery and put it back in, then it will start charging. Whenever I plug up the adapter a pop up box says, Your battery will not charge and the system will operate slower, please connect to a Dell 90W AC adapter.

I'm trying to pick a laptop. I DO NOT WANT A MAC DON"T EVEN BRING IT UP haha. But I just want something not too complicated and preferably under $1000. Right now I'm kind of between Dell, Toshiba, and HP. It seems like everyone has their good and bad stories about these companies and I just wanted some opinions on your personal experiences with either the service or the computer itself. I've heard HP is getting better, Dell has the best customer service, and Toshiba is probably the best of the three overall. Any info would be really helpful-I wouldn't need the notebook for anything other than school stuff, music, and maybe some pictures.

I have a dell xps 400 and I need to change the power supply. I am looking at the antec neo he 550. It appears to have all the connectors I need, and the dimensions, while not exactly the same as the current psu, will fit in the case. Is there anything else? I don't understand the at/atx thing or whatever else.

My Mom happily bought a new cordless desktop keyboard with optical mouse (Logitech). We only use this computer for internet surfing, the digital camera and playing pinball or card games. In other words, not heavy usage. My sister says she should take it back, because wireless technology is crap (slow response) and is a security risk. She has never even used one. What is your experience with it?

I have no idea if I have a CD writer or DVD writer or if there is a difference. I have a Dell laptop and I thought that the manual said I could burn dvd's - this may be universal manual for many computers, though....I saw under a similar question that someone suggested looking under the control panel/system/hardware/device manager/DVD/CD Rom drives and seeing if it lists the different: cd-r, dvd-r, etc. My computer lists: TSST corp CDRW/DVD TSL462C. Any help would be appreciated. I have large amounts of pictures to backup and thought a dvd would hold all of them, as opposed to many different cd's. I purchased some DVD+R's, figuring I had a 50/50 chance of getting the right one and the computer said insert blank disc - I don't want to waste money on the DVD-R's if I can't write to any DVD's!

Last night, while I was out of the desk area, my desktop computer suddenly turned off.

I tried plugging it into a wall source where it lit up for a fast moment and then died. What should I do?
