Hi there, seems as though your "MBR" (Master boot record) has become corrupt, its nothing that cant be fixed, if its possible try and download a program called Unbuntu or knoppix both are free to use and download (i believe version 6.0.6 for unbuntu is out at the moment), this is basically Linux operating system which you dont have to install (called live), run the cdrom with Unbuntu or knoppix on it, let it go into the o/s itself (You dont have to do anything apart from what ive said, the MBR should hopefully be repaired automatically, ive done this to many many systems as ive been an IT engineer for the last 13years) then restart the machine, unbuntu plus many other linux live o/s have a far more advanced repair tool built into the system itself to repair MBR's plus other windows screw ups. the repair function on the windows disk works but not very often.
hope this helps

You are getting some strange answers here. I assume you mean you are automatically booting into Safe Mode hence the menu with all the options. So why are people telling you to boot into Safe Mode?
Try scheduling a check disk (chkdsk.exe).
Click on My Computer and right click the C drive and select Properties and then the Tools tab. Click the Error Checking button and put a check mark next to the two options and reboot your computer.

I guess you won't be able to install Windows XP separately. What you can try is to download "Windows XP Mode" from Microsoft's website (or search on google). Then download "Windows Virtual PC" from the same website. The size of the 1st one is approximately 360 MB. Once you install both of the above mentioned softwares, you would be able to use Windows XP simulataneously with Windows 7. But for doing so, the Windows 7 installed on your system must be either professional or ultimate. Windows XP Mode won't install on "Home Basic" and "Home Premium" editions of Windows 7.

If you can get into Safe Mode go to the Adninistrative Tools and look for errors in the Event Viewer. Start a new topic on any error messages you find. Start with the four most resent.
