A custom built computer from a reputable local company, they will personally design your system to your needs and make sure it has enough horsepower for the future as well.
This way you get only what you want in the software dept, but you get the hardware you want with the performance you want.
I specialize in this with all of my customers. It really is the best way to go.

I have been told an EMachines are good. But I have never tried them myself. There is one at Best buy for like 400.00 but you will want to upgrade the memory.

The Dell Dimension E521 is a nice model PC to get, it comes standard with 1 gig of RAM and 160GB of hard drive space and it starts at 499.00

If you are technically capable, build one yourself. Lots of guides available on the net... dollar for dollar, you can save yourself about 30%.
If not, check out deals at Dell. Go to www.techbargains.com and search for Dell... at month end (and especially quarter end), they release coupons which heavily discount their systems.
