Last night, while I was out of the desk area, my desktop computer suddenly turned off.

I tried plugging it into a wall source where it lit up for a fast moment and then died. What should I do?

My computer has been with me for about 4-5 years.

It's been pretty good, a worker at a computer shop said it could last a few more years because of the upgrades we got.

Maybe you aren't treating her right :) Enough about crappy jokes! Your power supply probably died. But before you even think about buying a new power supply ($10-20), disconnect the power cord. Try another outlet, connect everything, and try again. If it still doesn't work, like I said before, is probably your ps.

By the way, how old is your pc??

Edit: Remember, "could last" it's just potential, doesn't mean it's going to last. I'd recomend you to take it to a shop see what they tell you. But mention that you think it might be the power supply. If it turns out that is the motherboard, then you are out of luck. You'd need to buy another. Sorry :(

Death of power suppliers is common thing indeed. If your computer turns off just after a few moments of work - its a sign of dead supplier. Power wire also can be a reason for such things. You need to check your wire and supplier and substitute the broken one. It shouldn't be too difficult or to expensive

If those answers don't work have the power button checked. It might need to be replaced
