It errors out with "USB cord not compatible" I haven't had this problem before and used the same USB cord...has anyone else had this problem and knows how to fix it. HELP PLEASE!

Hello there; Since I don't know the secific printer you are having difficulty, I cannot give you specific information... it's like I was asking how much does a car cost... doesn't it depend upon the car?
if you've got an internet connection, go to the HP website (www.hp.com) and look for support, they have a tab where you can actually chat online with a person who is knowledgeable about your specific HP device... http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/help.do try the URL, if the link doesnt work, copy and paste it to your address bar. Once the page opens up, notice the "live help" button on the upper right part of the page? they're pretty good about helping, and it's free!

Try reinstalling the software for your printer all over again. It may just need to re-detect the printer.
