My Mustek 1200 UB Plus Scanner produces a Burning-like smell if i scan 2 sheets consecutively!! If I go on further, and I scanned 5 pages ONLY, SMOKE came out of the back...

I left it for a couple of hours then used it again and i worked...

What's the problem?

My friend gave me an EPSON R210 printer. I only want to print in black, but the printer will only operate if all six colour cartridges are full. I don't want to purchase that many! Even when I set the settings to greyscale and turn off the colour requirements on the computer, the ink warning pops up informing me I cannot proceed because all of the cartridges are not full. This is really annoying.

Any thoughts?

I bought a gateway pc in 2001, since then I had to reinstall all its componets, but I forgot to write down the stupid code for my word xp home edition. It kills me because no I can't use it and I don't want to spend the money to buy a new suite. I would really appreciate the generosity of someone who would share their code if they have the same product it is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, the Word program. I may even pay a very small amount for a working one. Thanks in advance!

I have an older gateway computer, bought in 2001 and over the years I had a friend modify it with more RAM, a CD writer, new hard disk, new OS, broadband card. He even helped me transfer it to a new larger case.

The current system is: Celeron 754 MHz, 320 MB Ram, XP Professional 2002, SP2. It has a 75 MB primary hard drive and a second 9 MB hard drive (which is the original drive and is empty).

Since I uploaded thousands of digital photos and my CD collection, the computer is already exceedingly slow. And I only have about 25 MB of data on the drive!

I am considering replacing the motherboard with something better (Processor/Ram, ect.) rather than buying a new PC. I am confident I can take the old motherboard out and put a new one myself and reconnect the rest of the hardware. (I cant use my friend anymore since I moved to another state!)

My questions are, Is it worth it? Will it work with my existing hardware and O/S? Will my PC be much faster?

the the word back up used in the way in "a previous state"....like when a vehicle backs up

or is it used as a noun like a back up copy of a CD or document.

How is the word back up used in computers?

I know XP uses restore points...which I could be like backing up to a previous state, but then what is a true backup of a hard drive? i'm a bit confused. Thanks.

I bought a new Bluetooth adapter (a USB dongle), but the Bluetooth Devices applet do not exist in Control Panel. Though Help & Support Center in Windows XP states that I can find it in Printers and Other Hardware catefory, I still can't find it (though my device is inserted yet). The adapter that I bought was a product of IVT Corporation, BlueSoleil.

Is it possible that the mic jet at the back of the cpu is dirty or malfunctioning? the mic is not working properly with this computer im using. i used this mic before on another computer and it worked well. i also tried testing the hardware. it seems working when i plug in the mic.(u know when u plug in something u can see it,on ur computer.) do you think that the mic jet should be changed. the speakers are fine tho.

to me it's not the driver's problem nor the mic's problem....

anyone expert in this please answer me ur opinion or suggestions

I recently upgraded my Emachines T6212 from the on-board ATI X200
graphics card to an ATI X1650 PRO. I can't figure out how to disable
the X200 in the BIOS. I can get to the BIOS, but I don't see any
specific mention of the on-board video card. It's all BIOS acronyms
that I don't understand. Can anyone tell me how to do it? Help would
be MUCH appreciated!

I did not have to do anything. Just plug it in and it automatically uses
the PCI Express card.

Hi, I bought a Dell GX520 System which cannot be upgraded in the sense cannot add a DVD Burner or a Hard Disk in the system. It has 8 USB2.0 ports and I connected an External Hard Disk and got an LG DVD Burner (normal one) with a 5.25" case and connected using USB Drive. I can play movies and stuff but cannot burn CDs / DVDs. It starts to burn but stops in the middle sometimes at 20% 30% 50% 70% even at 80%. I tried it on Windows XP Professional / Home and Ne\ro 6.0 and 7. Even in My computer, it shows as DVD RW but if you insert a blank DVD / CD it doesnt open up as is usually done in Windows XP.

I do not know if the problem is with the DVD Burner or with the External Case. I dont have other sources to check the gadgets.

i hv burned the ubuntu linux iso image onto a cd. i hv a dual boot with 98 and xp. when i reboot my computer, even if i hv inserted the cd, tthe pc boots xp. is there any way to install linnux without uninstalling any OS?
