I bought a gateway pc in 2001, since then I had to reinstall all its componets, but I forgot to write down the stupid code for my word xp home edition. It kills me because no I can't use it and I don't want to spend the money to buy a new suite. I would really appreciate the generosity of someone who would share their code if they have the same product it is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, the Word program. I may even pay a very small amount for a working one. Thanks in advance!

If your first version was legal then you just need to call Microsoft and they will give you the code. If you use anothers code and Microsoft catches you then you could get fined, which would cost you more then buying another legal version.

If someone would to give you their product key they would be breaking the law, and the Yahoo Answers terms and conditions.

There is a good chance that the product key is printed on a sticker attached to the computer. Failing that, Gateway might be able to provide you with one. Failing that, talk to Microsoft.

You might be in a position where you have to buy a new copy though.

I suggest you contact Gateway.

Microsoft checks to see if your program is legal when you update and if someone gave you their code, MS would know two computers have the same code. Not legal.

One cannot legally do that, but there is a default program that you can find on your computer... it's called WordPad... It's under 'Start > Programs > Accessories'. Granted, it's not the best program in the world, but it works if you need to type things up for college work or something.

A very good and FREE substitute for Microsoft Office (and Word) is OPEN OFFICE.

Give it a try!

Microsoft will blow up your CPU if the Keys not match.
Well, maybe not, but, they not like you playing with Mother Nature or Microsoft.
