i hv burned the ubuntu linux iso image onto a cd. i hv a dual boot with 98 and xp. when i reboot my computer, even if i hv inserted the cd, tthe pc boots xp. is there any way to install linnux without uninstalling any OS?

You need to change the boot order so that your computer tries to load from CD before trying the hard drive. With some motherboards, you can hit F12 at the startup screen to open up a boot device menu, and if this works, you can just choose your CD drive that one time. Otherwise, you have to go into your BIOS by hitting a certain key on the startup screen - usually "Del" or F1. There should be a startup sequence submenu in the BIOS somewhere.

An ISO image is a set of instructions that tells your Burner program how to create a bootable CD and also includes all the (Linux) code.

You "copied" the ISO image to a CD. That won't work.

Open your favourite CD burner program and look for "Create CD from ISO" or something similar and follow the prompts.
